About the Author
Dr Alfred Price served as an aircrew officer in the RAF until 1974. Since then he has been a full-time aviation historian and writer, and is acknowledged as a leading authority on the Spitfire. He is co-author of the Haynes Spitfire Manual.Paul Blackah joined the RAF in 1976 and trained as an airframe fitter. In 1993 he was posted to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. His specialized knowledge of vintage aircraft is considered crucial to the maintenance of the aircraft in the flight. In the 1990s Paul was closely involved in the restoration-to-flight of the Messerschmitt Bf109F 'Black 6'. He is co-author with Alfred Price of the Supermarine Spitfire Manual. He lives in Lincolnshire, England.

Everything you could ever want to know about the Spitfire, and then some...

This book could be titled "The Care and Feeding of Your Spitfire." It goes into detail about just about every aspect of all the production variations, giving in depth descriptions of the changes made (and why) through its inception to the end of WW II. There are so few airworthy Spitfires left, the limited audience for a book like this would define the term "niche market." Luckily, there are lots of people like me who are just fascinated by this iconic aircraft. I bought it primarily as a reference for building accurately detailed scale models. What I found most interesting, however, was the description of the RAF's facilities and personnel dedicated to restoring vintage British aircraft. A great read and a wonderful reference.
