Want to be a more effective at work and at home?
This subjective assessment is designed to help you discover your primary communication and learning style. It will shed light on how you relate to others and reveals how you run your relationships, both personal and professional. Better communicators achieve more success in all aspects of life.
Confusion and misunderstandings happen for many reasons.
People communicate, both verbally and non-verbally, in a diversity of styles. It’s almost as if they are speaking different languages. Knowing how these different styles clash, can help you put your ideas across more clearly and give your point of view greater acceptance. It just makes sense to learn and use these skills.
There are many communication models. This particular one, from the field of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), is commonly known as VAK (Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic). Science Digest stated: “NLP could be the most important synthesis of knowledge about human communication to emerge since the explosion of humanistic psychology in the sixties.”
The full VAK model is quite detailed, so this book just provides a brief overview to set the stage for the self-audit. As you begin to explore VAK, remember that, as with other models, all of us possess varying mixtures of all styles.
As with most abilities, these communication skills will quickly improve with practice. To begin, apply these concepts in your everyday communication at work and at home. In time, your improved capabilities and skills will become second nature.
To better understand this communications model, study the characteristics of the three styles shown in the first few pages. Do the short review exercise, and then take the self-audit. In the following days, observe your family, friends, and colleagues. Soon you will notice the patterns in their communication styles.

From the Author
Confusion and misunderstandings happen for many reasons. The message sent is not necessarily the one received. People communicate, both verbally and nonverbally, in a diversity of styles. It's almost as if they're speaking different languages to each other.
There are many communication models. This particular one, from the field of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), is commonly known as VAK (Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic). This book includes a fourth profile. In NLP terms, it is known as Auditory Digital (Ad). In this text, to better describe what's happening, I call it Internal Dialogue (Id). That also avoids confusion with ADD, a term not commonly known when NLP was originally developed. The full VAK-Id model is quite detailed, so in this book I will provide just a brief overview. Please keep in mind that, as with other models, all of us possess varying mixtures of all profiles.
Knowing how these styles differ can help you put your ideas across more clearly, and give your point of view greater acceptance. As well, you'll have a better handle on the messages people are sending and saying to you. It just makes sense to learn and use these skills.
Once you understand the different profiles, you can get your point across in a way that people will understand. You will establish rapport more quickly to facilitate smoother interactions and absorb information with greater ease and comprehension. As well, you will enhance your leadership skills and accelerate your career advancements.

Unexpected but appreciated information
By Barbara L
The book is short, focused and concise. One doesn't have to dig for information; the information is readily available and easy to understand. On first read, the book seems to be the same ole, same ole, but it isn't. I really appreciated the added detail of the "words and phrases they use" and the "these communicators" listed under characteristics of each learning style. The sections titled "best practices for learning" were, also, very helpful.

Should be required reading for every teacher and student!
By Paul Kurucz
This is a great little resource for learning more about yourself. Short, direct, and to-the-point, this self-audit will start you on the path to learning more about yourself, others, and how the world works with the Neurolinguistic Programming model. Most people know they have preferences - watching videos (visual), listening to music or talk radio (auditory), or playing sports (kinesthetic). But these preferences apply at a more profound level to every part of your life - whether those parts are learning, relationships, or work. Understanding yourself at a deeper level is essential for gaining control of, and improving, all parts of your life.
Why a 4 * out of 5 * rating? Because this guide only starts you on the path: It leaves you wanting more.
Which is OK, because it means you want to learn more.
Which means that this book did its job.
Which is a compliment to the book, of course.
Great as a gift for a student, teacher, hungry mind, or a person, young or old, who is opening themselves to self-inquiry.
