I grew up with this exact book. I loved the illustrations. Yes, I've read that Edward Fitzgerald took liberties with the translation, but he definitely captured the lush poetry of the original work. It may not be as scholarly as some would prefer, but its essence is there.

Reflecting the Beauty of the Lord. 25 Devotions for Women.

My church gave these out to mothers as Mothers' Day Gifts, a couple of years ago. I just now got around to reading mine. I had no idea it was going to be so awesome, so beautiful, so powerful. If you have this book, and haven't read it yet, don't take as long as I did to get around to reading it! I highly recommend it to all women. (Men can read it, too.)

Have you ever known someone who was strikingly beautiful on the outside, but the inside did not match? I do know lots of people like that, and it seems to be a waste of beauty. The inside is a rot gut pool of hatred, arrogance, disrespect, etc, but the outside is so beautiful, but it doesn't make up for the inside.

This book talks about the inner beauty of God's women, and how it actually radiates to the outside. The way it was presented was so beautiful and encouraging. And Bible scriptures were included. Yes, the Bible speaks of our inner beauty!

There are so many good examples I could give you from this little booklet, but if I did, I'd be quoting the whole book! This book did me a world of good. I LOVE it!!!

Churches do studies from other books. I think they should do a study from this book . . .

Hands Down: the Best Historical Speculative Fiction Novel

Hands down the best historical speculative fiction novel that I have read thus far. When I opened Wind and Dreams, I was immediately reminded of works akin Mary Renault and Marion Zimmer Bradley -- that fantasy mythos blended with the astonishing attention to historical detail. Linda's writing, simultaneously phenomenal, provocative, and thoughtful to culture, grabs the reader in with the first sentence and captivates her from beginning to end. If I were to categorize this novel further, I would add the possibility of Steampunk with its attributes of Victorian Age sensibilities beside the Egyptology phase in archaeology. Of course, the characters personalities, the realism that Linda creates in emotion, conversation, and the dream-real dichotomous thread all add to the beauty of this book. Linda's writing is fantastic. I cannot say that I enjoyed Wind and Dreams more than I did her book, Deep Merge, since they are completely different genres, to my mind. Still speculative, still with incredible attention to detail and wonderful character development, but they follow paths so differently, that they are incomparable. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Great story...original, adventurous, sexy, hard to put down!

If you're bored of the same lesbian romance story lines that we tend to see book after book then this is the book for you!! Completely original storyline, full of intrigue. The characters are interesting and the relationships believable. Just one warning...there is a glossary at the beginning of the book noting Egyptian words that will be used in the story...don't let this deter you (I almost did), in fact you can skip forward and still thoroughly enjoy the ride the story takes you on. This book was a breath of fresh air, a wonderful escape from the tired corporate/rich/play girl/back and forth storylines. You won't be disappointed, in fact you may be supposed by he much you enjoy it...I was! I hope to see more from this author!

I'm going to be totally honest and tell you - I read this cover to cover very quickly. I'm also going to tell you - I would LOVE me some harem girls! The premise is awesome - The scenes with the Gods of Egypt blew me away. I'm a fan of Linda North now for sure.
This is NOT a politically correct book if you're a die-hard feminist - but it's FANTASY - and believe me - I'm still being honest here - I want some "companions."
Take a step back in time - release your judgments - and have a GOOD time. It's the reason I READ - for adventure!

About the Author
Dr. JoAnn (Jodi) Crandall is Professor Emerita and former Director of the Language, Literacy and Culture Ph.D. Program, and Co-Director of the MA TESOL Program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She has worked in all areas of ESL/EFL including teaching, curriculum and materials development, standards development, and teacher training.

Kearney is Professor of Government Emeritus at Western Kentucky University. He received his Ph.D. from The American University.

My favorite of the Angry Young Men

I find a lot of the other British novels and stories from the "Angry Young Men" movement not very engaging, but this play has incredible energy. I enjoyed it very much. I'm not usually drawn into plays but was totally into *Look Back in Anger* from the first scene. This might be partly because of the wonderful prose-y stage directions that do a lot with the characters, but I think it's more about the dialogue. Osborne manages to make most of these characters both extensively, ironically self-reflective and mostly not tedious, which I find really impressive. Every scene brims with (surprise) anger, depression, and the crisis of masculinity in Post-War Britain.

Resentment Leads to Nostalgia

Osborne, the great so-called radical, grew to be a reactionary, full of ideas about 'England' and her past glories. He aged into the image of what his protagonist Jimmy Porter ranted against. Should we be surprised, or was Jimmy Porter headed in this direction? Everyone, according to Jimmy, is a fake, but who would embody the real thing if he were to come along? When were things better, if today is so bloody awful? Playwright David Hare created a female version of this type of nasty negativity in his play "Plenty," about the sour ex-spy who couldn't adjust to post war life, also known as peace time. She had had the time of her life passing messages and getting knocked up on quick overnights to France. Too bad the war couldn't have been prolonged for her entertainment. Jimmy and Hare's Susan deserve each other. Most American parents have met this sort. At about 13 most kids get grouchy and start hating everything and everybody. It was brilliant of Osborne to have introduced the middle-aged tantrum-thrower to the theater, it must have been thrilling theater back in the day, but does it hold up? After five decades this sort of dim-witted, passive disgruntlement grows terribly stale. As for theater, my sense is that Noel Coward will fair better in the history books and, more importantly, on the stage. In fact, the sort of theater Osborne criticized has come back strong. The fact is that by growing into a caricature of himself, he only proved how witless and vapid his stage character has always been. He was a paralyzed blow-hard, a wind bag.

Be prepared for an onslaught of cynicism

You'll never meet a more unique character than Jimmy Porter, a 20-something British Archie Bunker. He's filled with rage at the absence of ... something ... and spews forth venom, sarcasm and utter misery relentlessly. Sounds horrible, right? Well, it's fascinating. I couldn't put it down, and I'd like to see the current revival of the play in NYC. I've seen a few people like Jimmy Porter, people who have so much potential, energy and creativity, yet for one reason or another it's all squandered. They fail to surround themselves with people of equal passion, and the result is that they hurt the ones around them, who are more at peace with themselves. The question is, how does someone so young get this way?

Great E&E But Don't Waste the Money on This Edition

The Evidence E&E is hands down one of the best in the series. It's very straightforward and easy to understand. The text is well written and the examples are extremely helpful. I do recommend, however, that you get the 7th edition. My friend bought this edition and I had the previous one. We went through them together and the examples were - as far as we could tell - all exactly the same. We didn't go through all of them - just the ones that applied to our class - but they matched up exactly. So, if you're looking to save thirty some odd dollars, you can feel all right and confident with buying the seventh edition.

Meh. Content so-so and Kindle problems.

I purchased this because I wanted a study aid that has narrative explanations and reflects the 2011 revisions to the FRE. As such, this guide basically fulfills its intended purpose. But it really should be much better.

As far as the content of the work, like other E&Es the narrative is very wordy and does not do a very good job of distinguishing settled from unsettled law. The question/answer format of the work would be more effective if the explanations focused on black-letter principles and spent fewer words equivocating over how a court might apply unsettled law to the factual ambiguities in the problems presented.

The examples/explanation problems are also poorly edited. In at least one case, an explanation is wholly omitted. Explanations sometimes introduce new or have different relevant facts. In other cases, the explanations focus on tangential issues. These problems could be resolved with some simple editing. The good people at Wolters should have someone work the problems before publication.

The Kindle version, at least on my machine, does not properly display the text near the left hand margin, cutting off some section numbers, problem/answer numbers, and endnote numbers. Also paragraph indentations are irregular.

Not just for lawyers.

Too much of what the non-lawyer public learns about the American judicial system comes from television and movies. These media accelerate the real process and take considerable liberties with what might be presentable in a real court. This book helps distill the arcane rules of what can be presented at a trial into something the intelligent, non-lawyer can understand. There are lots of examples and lots of questions with answers. (And lots of footnotes and references, too.) You can read the text and skip the questions, or really dig into the questions, see if you get it right, and then read the answers. The book won't make you a lawyer, but it will certainly help you understand why lawyers sometimes act in ways the lay public finds so convoluted.

Barry's Two-part Bach Inventions

Barry was a dear friend and I would go to his home and play through these Bach inventions with him. Barry worked hard to write these and I found them to be a must for all guitarists. They are challenging and will advance your reading to the highest level.
Barry and I would go into NY city each week to a studio owned by the great guitarist Allen Hanlon. We would get 5 or 6 student guitarists and work them through some of the hardest guitar reading charts available. We made sure these students got a copy of the Two-Part Inventions. Barry gave me a copy of the book but I just purchased a copy since I did not have the CD. I miss Barry and the CD allows me to once again play along with him.
I have all of Barry books and every guitarist should have them in their guitar library. Barry's information in these books is priceless.
Barry was one of the top pros. Don't miss out on the valuable information he possessed. If you love guitar you will love his Two-Part Inventions. Just to hear him play on the CD is worth the price.

A MUST HAVE

An amazing transcript of Bachs 15 inventions. Probably one of the most difficult books to sightread for guitar. This book serves as an excellent way to expand your reading skills on the guitar up into the 15 TH fret register with beautiful counterpoint melodies. Each Invention is a little master piece in itself. After diggin through this one other sighreading material will be a walk in the park.

A must for aspiring guitar sight-readers

all of bachs 2 part inventions are here, arranged for guitar. there is plenty of varying difficutly too. some of the inventions(20 percent) have drop d tuning for an extra challenge. the play along CD is very helpful too with each track at slow and then fast speed. any serious guitarist who wants to learn how to read should have this in their library. this repertiore would be perfect to play in a recital with a fellow guitarist.

Prime Harmonica

Dave Gage's book, "Harmonica Beginners" seems to be an excellent reference source for a starting player. Mr. Gage got me, a beginner, playing in short order. He takes much of the mystery out of the harmonica with basic but detailed techniques and tips that are well explained and organized. A nice feature that Mr. Gage added for the purchaser of this book, is a free 3 month "mini membership" to his online harmonicalessons.com website that contain audio and video files which enhance his instructions. Best of all, Dave Gage stresses having fun with the harmonica and playing some music.

Great book, really helped me to get started playing harmonica. I've been a professional drummer for many years, and always wanted to have fun playing the harmonica. Couldn't have done it without the book, as I really don't have time for private lessons.
